Pinkney Lane, Bank, LYNDHURST, SO43 7FD
At the heart of the National Park, patrons enjoying Gales ales in the garden of this bare-boarded, bric-à-brac full country pub may idly watch local residents' pigs snuffling for acorns, New Forest ponies grazing or even fallow deer fleetingly flitting amidst the trees. It's a popular stop with cyclists and walkers exploring the forest's tracks, breaking for a while to partake of the enticing menu which is strong on meals prepared using produce of the parish; perhaps a doorstop sandwich with New Forest ham and Loosehanger cheese, or cider-braised pork belly, celeriac and sage purée, gratin potatoes and spiced apple compôte as a main. Booking for meals is advised. Children are welcome, but only ten years and over are permitted after 6pm.
