The Green, LURGASHALL, Petworth, GU28 9ET
In a picturesque village beneath Blackdown Hill, this attractive 16th-century inn overlooks the cricket green. The pretty, shabby-chic interior is full of warmth thanks to the charm of old beams, a large inglenook fireplace, muted colours, pale wooden furniture, fresh flowers and the enthusiasm of its owners. In addition to the Greene King ales is a regularly changing guest, and the traditional British food with a contemporary twist uses seasonal ingredients carefully sourced from the best local suppliers. The menu is concise but enticing: shrimp bisque fritter and garlic mayo may precede a main course of 10oz Sussex rib-eye steak, chips, salad and onion rings; or black tiger prawn and Parma ham linguine.
