The Charlton Arms

Ludford Bridge, LUDLOW, SY8 1PJ

Since taking over the pub a few years ago, Frenchman Cedric Bosi and his wife Amy have quickly established it as one of Ludlow's must-visit food pubs. Whether it's dogs, children or muddy-booted walkers, everybody is made to feel welcome at this pub on the banks of the River Teme. Well-kept local ales such as Hobsons Best Bitter keep beer drinkers happy and there are 14 wines by the glass. The food is excellent - a typical meal might start with Cornish crab raviolo, pink grapefruit, samphire and beurre blanc; or saag aloo soup, spiced potato bon bon and raita, and continue with Skrei cod, razor clams, chorizo and chickpeas; ox cheek, watercress pomme mousseline, baby onions, mushrooms and sour cream; or truffled mushroom risotto and aged parmesan. To end a great meal perhaps choose treacle tart, stem ginger ice cream or chocolate marquise, cherry and pistachio. Nine en suite bedrooms are available, some have wonderful views over the river.
