Darlington Road, LONGNEWTON, TS21 1DB
This 18th-century pub has neither jukebox, pool or gaming machine, and the TV is on only for special events; background music plays quietly in the lounge. Sensibly priced home-made restaurant food includes haloumi stuffed pepper; crispy salmon and haddock fishcakes; butternut squash risotto; short-crust steak, mushroom and Black Sheep ale pie; and steamed spotted dick with bay leaf custard and seasonal berries. Grill night is Tuesday, French cuisine and tapas are available on alternate Wednesday evenings, roasts on Sunday, and there is a mini beer festival in July. A large garden looks towards the Cleveland Hills and the North Yorkshire Moors.
