The Windsor Castle

114 Campden Hill Road, LONDON, W8 7AR

A surprisingly rural-looking pub in well-heeled Campden Hill, it dates from 1845 and takes its name from the royal abode 18 miles away, once visible from upstairs. Largely unmodernised for at least 100 years, its rambling, oak-panelled interior is warmed by two gas fires, and the large garden has its own bar. Very much a drinker's pub, it serves Sambrook's Wandle and Adnams Broadside real ales and several real ciders, but there's good food too, including Norfolk pork loin chop; beer-battered haddock and skin-on chips; and chestnut and wild mushroom risotto.
