The Princess of Shoreditch

76-78 Paul Street, LONDON, EC2A 4NE

A pub since 1742, the former Princess Royal acquired its new name in 2010 following a major refurbishment that, say owners Scott and Maria Hunter, "made the old girl look better than ever". In the lively ground-floor bar beers change weekly, with regular supplies from London Fields brewery in Hackney, and real cider from Hogan's in Warwickshire. Food is served too, although for more formal dining (booking is recommended), climb the spiral staircase to the restaurant for dishes such as pan-fried pollock with cherry tomato and cannellini bean ragout; trio of lamb; and butternut squash, spinach and wild mushroom pie.
