Edwardian pubby grandeur, log fires and polished wood furnishings offer a relaxed, informal atmosphere at this gastro-pub less than fifteen minutes from the Wimbledon All England Tennis Club in SW19. The emphasis of the kitchen is the daily changing, seasonal menus with everything made on the premises including the bread. Kick in with pig's head terrine and stuffed pork belly with gribiche sauce; or warm smoked sprats, horseradish and mustard butter before progressing to grilled Toulouse sausages, mash, greens and white onion sauce; or herb-crumbed fillet of plaice with buttered new potatoes, fennel and caper slaw. Round off with ricotta doughnuts and butterscotch sauce. In warmer weather, simply unwind with a beer on the front patio. Change of ownership.
