76 Broadway Market, Hackney, LONDON, E8 4QJ
Used by workers on their way to London's livestock markets in the 17th century, this revamped pub was once known as the 'Cattle & Shoulder of Mutton'. Today, the building has been reinvented as one of East London's busiest food pubs. At scrubbed tables in trendy, gentrified surroundings, order a 'small plate' of burnt broccoli, yogurt, pickled mustard seeds and almonds; onglet steak with chimichurri; or octopus, potatoes and black garlic crème fraîche. For bigger appetites there's 'large plates' of jerk chicken and mango coleslaw; lamb belly with smoked aubergine; and a bucket of mutton chops, bean salad and mint sauce. Blood orange sorbet with a glass of Prosecco finishes a meal nicely.
