76 Broadway Market, Hackney, LONDON, E8 4QJ
Used by workers on their way to London's livestock markets in the 17th century, this revamped pub was once known as the 'Cattle & Shoulder of Mutton'. Today, the building has been reinvented as one of East London's busiest food pubs. At scrubbed tables in trendy, gentrified surroundings, order deep fried herring roe with sauce gribiche; pan-fried duck breast with butternut purée, pancetta, greens and lavender; and Westmorland tart with whisky cream. Lunchtime brings lighter options such as linguini with courgette, chard, hazelnut and Cashel Blue. There are well-kept real ales and several wines are offered by the glass.
