The Alfred Tennyson

10 Motcomb Street, LONDON, SW1X 8LA

Previously The Pantechnicon Rooms, inspired by the early 19th-century, Greek revival-style building a hundred yards away, this poetically renamed pub is very, very Belgravia. For a drink, a quick breakfast, lunch or supper, stay in the casual ground-floor bar; for something more formal ascend to the dining room, with open fires and big sash windows overlooking the cobbled street. The menu offers rock oysters with shallot dressing; spicy crumbed Goosnargh chicken burger, avocado and blue cheese; Norfolk Horn shepherd's pie and cheddar mash; pan-fried fillet of salmon, Jersey Royals, caramelised onions, samphire and romesco sauce; and stuffed globe artichoke with smoked aubergine and minted yogurt.
