Description
This City pub is the only surviving tavern displaying the sign of Dr Butler, purveyor of 'medicinal ale'. It was rebuilt after the Great Fire, although the frontage is probably Victorian. Pub lunches and Shepherd Neame real ales are served in the Dickensian gas-lit bar, while upstairs, the Chop House restaurant offers a traditional English menu featuring steak and kidney pudding, and chargrilled lamb cutlets. The City is largely empty at weekends, so the pub closes.
