35 Wingate Road, LONDON, W6 0UR
Built in 1866, this traditional Victorian corner pub is thriving in the hands of Richard and George Manners, whose experience with seven other London pubs has stood them in good stead. The Anglesea Arms' reputation has grown steadily, thanks to a rotating choice of real ales in the bar, a global wine list to suit every taste and pocket, and a concise menu of carefully prepared food. The ambience too plays its part. Located between Shepherd's Bush and Hammersmith, the bar's sofas make for cosy fireside drinking, there's an intimate dining area at the rear, and the outdoor terrace is popular in summer. Chef Phil Harrison mixes British and continental ingredients to great effect. A typical three-course choice could begin with smoked mackerel rillettes, pickled cucumber and rye bread; followed by slow-cooked duck leg with mash, kale and onions; and finish with malted caramel pears, whipped mascarpone, tarragon and meringues.
