The Nags Head

The Ford, LITTLE HADHAM, Nr Ware, SG11 2AX

This warm and relaxed country pub was built in 1595 and still retains its traditional atmosphere, with an old bakery oven and a good range of real ales at the bar. Fish dishes such as poached skate wing with black butter and capers feature strongly on the full à la carte menu, which also includes a choice of steaks and vegetarian meals. At lunchtime, sandwiches and jacket potatoes offer a lighter alternative to hot main courses. Sit out the front on a good day and enjoy the countryside.

We were really looking forward to our meal at the Nags Head. We believed it would be upmarket pub food, judging by the prices, with fish a speciality. We were very disappointed. My poached skate was insipid and soggy. The meals gave the impression they had been put together with little care. The proprietor did not charge us for my awful fish. We were given a table in the bar area about a foot away from the bottoms of people standing at the bar and drinking. We will never return.

A very warm greeting at a very friendly pub. Menu contains a good variety of dishes and all three courses we had were very pleasant. Nice real ales and good selection of wines made the visit a most enjoyable experience. Would recommend.
