The Queens Head

Westmoor Lane, Finghall, LEYBURN, DL8 1QZ

This pretty 18th-century country inn with beams and open fires is set on a hillside above Wensleydale and there are stunning views of the countryside from the terrace. The dining room overlooks Wild Wood - believed to be one of the inspirations for Kenneth Grahame's Wind in the Willows. Drinkers can quaff a pint of Theakston Black Bull Bitter by the fire and diners can create their own deli board while considering the menu, which demonstrates the kitchen team's passion for Dales produce. As well as sandwiches and pub favourites there are tempting dishes like pan-fried venison steak, port and blueberry sauce and hand-cut chips; and minted pea and leek risotto with asparagus. Spacious accommodation is located in the adjacent annexe.
