The Stagg Inn and Restaurant

Titley, KINGTON, HR5 3RL

With many accolades, including two AA Rosettes, to its credit, this well-established and celebrated rural gastro-pub stands where the wooded ridges of west Herefordshire nudge the Welsh border. Locals congregate in the small bar to chat, snack and drink beers from Ludlow and Wye Valley, and Herefordshire real ciders. The rambling layout incorporates several dining areas, where a starter of pan-fried Presteigne trout with celeriac, apple and radish might be followed by roasted, locally shot partridge with pickled cauliflower and pearl barley; or shallot and goats' cheese tart with onion purée, kale and noisette potatoes. A specials board extends the options, while Sunday's set lunch could introduce you to Herefordshire beef, with roast topside served with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. And if you've never had a Herefordshire wine, try a white or rosé from nearby Broadfield Court Vineyard.
