Fore Street, KINGSAND, Torpoint, PL10 1NA
This property is now firmly in Cornwall; until 1844 the pub was partly in Devon too because the stream running through the garden was the dividing line between the counties. The twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand were once smuggling hotspots; how easy this is to imagine over a pint of Sharp's Atlantic real ale or Cornish Rattler real cider. Typically, dinner might be pan-fried red mullet with crispy bacon, leeks and cider-apple dressing; steak, stout, chestnut and mushroom pie with herbed suet crust and butternut purée; or harissa, lentil and chickpea burger, pickled cucumber and red pepper; finishing with tarte au citron, or affogato.
