Church Street, KILHAM, Driffield, YO25 4RG
Revitalised and reinvigorated following purchase by a consortium of villagers, this ancient pub now goes from strength to strength. It stands opposite the church in a village at the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. With open fires, log-burners, rustic decor and quirky artefacts to take the eye, it's a champion of local suppliers, with beers from microbreweries and cider from the village; indeed, they have a cider festival here every year. The frequently-changing menu draws on Wolds producers where possible; perhaps sautéed pigeon breast starter leading to a wide selection of steaks, fish dishes and venerable pub grub choices.
