Dowlish Wake, ILMINSTER, TA19 0NZ
Deep in rural Somerset, this 350-year-old stone-built pub is tucked away in the village of Dowlish Wake, close to Perry's thatched Cider Mill and Museum. Inside are two bars (serving Perry's Cider, of course) with wood-burning stoves and a restaurant, where menus of home-cooked food capitalise on the quality and freshness of local produce. You could opt for a signature dish such as fillet of salmon in a prawn and butter glaze; or perhaps stick to pub favourites like a giant Yorkshire pudding filled with pork sausages, and serve with new potatoes, vegetables and gravy. There are four guest rooms situated in an annexe overlooking the large secluded garden.
