The Crown Inn

The Crown dates back to the 16th century, and has been serving locals and travellers for more than 250 years. Back in 2003 a lightning strike caused serious damage, and large parts of the building were destroyed. Fortunately the oldest parts were untouched and, after being closed for five years, it finally reopened. In 2013 Mark Raffan, former co-owner of Gravetye Manor, took over and has brought elegant yet relaxed fine dining to this cosy, traditional inn. There are comforting real fires in winter and a glorious patio garden overlooking the village cricket green for warmer days. Have a pint of Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter while you check out the inviting menu. Kick off with warm roasted figs, pancetta and Stilton, port wine reduction and toasted pine nuts, and then enjoy creamy chicken, mushroom and leek pie, autumn greens, chips or mash. Finish with passionfruit and white chocolate cheesecake, mango chilli salsa and mango sorbet.
