Sparrow Corner, HINTON-IN-THE-HEDGES, NN13 5NF
The two small gardens of this traditional village pub are often populated by the village cricket team on summer weekends, refreshing themselves with pints of beautifully conditioned ales. The pub dates from the 15th century so there's a cosy interior divided into four areas, warmed by log fires in winter. Food from local suppliers is turned into a menu of reasonably-priced home-made favourites. A typical three-course selection could comprise field mushrooms on toast with garlic butter; pan-fried sea bass with ratatouille and basil; and a Hinton crumble or chocolate brownie.
