The Raven

HEXTON, Hitchin, SG5 3JB

This neat 1920s pub is named after Ravensburgh Castle in the neighbouring hills. Comfortable bars witness the serving of four weekly-changing guest ales, perhaps Sharp's Doom Bar or Timothy Taylor Landlord, while outside a large garden with heated terrace and a play area ensure family friendliness. Extensive menus embrace ranges of wraps, baguettes, jackets and baps if a snack is required. For a full meal expect the likes of crab and chill fishcakes with sweet chilli sauce to start, followed by lamb chops with red wine and rosemary sauce or fisherman's pie, leaving room for treacle sponge pudding.
