Hest Bank Inn

2 Hest Bank Lane, HEST BANK, Lancaster, LA2 6DN

First licensed in 1554, this former coaching inn is awash with history: it was occupied by Cromwell's officers in the Civil War and was also the haunt of highwaymen. Comedian Eric Morecambe used to drink at the canalside Hest Bank, which offers cask ales and a wide selection of meals all day, with local suppliers playing an important role in maintaining food quality. The good value menu ranges from traditional pub favourites such as venison and beef cobbler; and flash-fried lamb's liver, as well as seasonal specials. Enjoy a pint of Marston's Wainwright in the terraced garden. Wednesday evening is quiz night, while steak night is every Thursday.
