The Cherry Tree Inn
Stoke Row,
HENLEY-ON-THAMES,
RG9 5QA
After a recent change of hands, this 400-year-old listed building was reopened in April 2012. Originally three flint cottages, The Cherry Tree has been comprehensively re-fitted, mixing the original flagstone floors, beamed ceilings and fireplaces with contemporary décor. The bar offers Brakspear real ales and around 30 different wines, including some served by the glass. Choices on the bar menu include lightly spiced whitebait with tartare sauce; slow-cooked pork belly with roast English asparagus and cider potato fondant; and crème brûlée with banana salsa. The restaurant menu might begin with glazed ham hock, bubble-and-squeak cake with champagne mustard; continue with roasted monkfish, sautéed spring greens and a cockle and chorizo broth; and finish with chocolate soup, toasted marshmallow and drunken cherry. Outside, the large south-facing garden is perfect for alfresco summer dining.

Truly sublime food cooked to perfection, great friendly un-rushed service. Price good value for money, considering the quality of the food. Excellent place to eat a Sunday lunch, especially with people who consider English food inedible.
