The Glynne Arms

3 Glynne Way, HAWARDEN, CH5 3NS

This fine-looking old coaching inn's success is down to Charlie and Caroline Gladstone. Charlie's great-great grandfather was 19th-century prime minister Sir William Ewart Gladstone, who married into Hawarden Castle's Glynne dynasty. Meat, fruit and vegetables come from the couple's Estate Farm Shop down the road. Real ales are local too. At the menu's simpler end are sandwiches, gourmet burgers and grills, while greater sophistication comes courtesy of black pudding bon bons; salmon and plaice rouleaux, fennel choucroute, potato croquette, butter sauce, dill ketchup; Thai green curry; and pecan tart with salt caramel ice cream. This is a dog-friendly establishment.
