Owners Rebecca and Richard Robinson, once part of the London restaurant scene, were drawn back to this lovely part of the country and now run this pub that was once a rope works and flax store, then a cider house. Richard sources the majority of the produce for his French and British dishes from within a few miles. You'll get an idea of the cooking style from dishes such as a starter of flame-grilled mackerel, tea-smoked beignets and gooseberries; and braised beef cheek and tongue with provençale tomato and salsa verde followed by cod with Dorset snails, Alsace bacon, garlic and parsley; or Creedy Carver duck breast, parsnip, apple purée, English feta, watercress and raspberry. Given Richard and Rebecca's pledge that the 'great British pub experience is important to them', they equally welcome those who just want something simple, like a Dexter beefburger and hand-cut chips, for example. Real ales are from Otter, Palmers, Teignworthy and other breweries, with ciders from Burrow Hill and Thatchers.
