Owner and top chef Simon Diprose runs this traditional country pub which continues to go from strength to strength. His concise menus might begin with garlic and mozzarella roasted field mushroom; smoked Scottish salmon with potato salad, pea shoots and prawns; or calamari rings with lime mayonnaise and salad leaves. Moving onto something more substantial there's wild mushroom leek and Stilton crumble; chicken with creamed potato, fresh vegetables and pea, bacon and marjoram sauce; slow-cooked shank of Welsh lamb with vegetables and creamy garlic and thyme sauce; or lemon roast salmon fillet, baby vegetables and light beetroot and horseradish sauce. At lunchtime you could opt for just filled baps, a ploughman's or a burger and chunky chips.
