The Red River Inn

1 Prosper Hill, GWITHIAN, TR27 5BW

The name of this 200-year-old pub recalls the colour of the village river when tin was mined locally. Close by runs the South West Coastal Path, and the beach is popular with surfers who, even in their wetsuits, are warmly welcomed here. Among its attractions are up to five, ever-changing Cornish real ales, an Easter weekend beer and cider festival, and food that ranges from steak and Stilton ciabatta or patatas bravas to lamb and rocket salad, steaks and Middle Eastern, Mexican and Indonesian dishes. Vegetarians might choose borlotti bean and chestnut cassoulet. There's live music, curry and quiz nights and a pool table is available in the winter months.
