The Foresters Arms

The Street, GRAFFHAM, GU28 0QA

The South Downs aren't far away, so this charming pub attracts its fair share of walkers and cyclists, as well as those who enjoy browsing nearby Petworth's and Arundel's antique shops. Join them in the bar, where old beams, exposed stone walls and a large, smoke-blackened fireplace set the scene for a pint of Sussex-brewed Harvey's, Langham or Dark Star, or Westons Mortimers Orchard cider. On the short but imaginative menu, as a starter, is beef fillet carpaccio with Egyptian dukkah spices, parmesan shavings and rocket, then, as main courses, roasted belly of pork with rösti, pan-fried black pudding, and honey and ginger jus; and goats' cheese tarte Tatin with caramelised red onions, sun-blushed tomatoes and oregano. Pie and a pint evenings are on Mondays and it's steak on Thursdays, when two can dine with a carafe of wine for under £30. Don't miss the monthly Saturday live jazz evenings.
