The Augustus John

116 Station Road, FORDINGBRIDGE, SP6 1DG

The Welsh painter Augustus John lived in Fordingbridge for some years until his death in 1961; he was a regular when the pub served the now long-vanished, adjacent railway station. Today, under landlord Bryan Greenwood, Ringwood and guest real ales continue to attract locals and visitors. So too do such characteristic dishes as ham hock and parsley terrine, pickled vegetables and sourdough toast; free-range pork schnitzel, black pudding, fried duck egg, parsley butter and warm potato salad; and sea bass, purple sprouting broccoli with chorizo and mussel sauce.
