The Northumberland Arms

The Peth, West Thirston, FELTON, NE65 9EE

A solid stone-built coaching inn in a picturesque village beside the River Coquet, and just 25 minutes from Newcastle. It was built in the 1820s by Hugh Percy, 3rd Duke of Northumberland, as a place for horses to rest and guests to freshen up before being received at Alnwick Castle. In the bar locals and tourists alike sup pints of Northumbrian brewed beers. The kitchen sources local ingredients for dishes such as smoked bacon lardons, black pudding and poached egg salad; or ham hock terrine with tomato and chilli jam; confit duck leg, sticky red cabbage, fondant potato, green beans and red wine jus; and pea and mint risotto, crumbed goats' cheese and baby leaf salad.
