The White Dog

Village Street, EWHURST GREEN, TN32 5TD

This tile-hung village pub is either the first in, or the last out of the village, depending on which way you are travelling. Its age is more apparent from the interior, particularly the huge fireplace, old oak beams and stone floors. Four hand-pumps dispense regularly-changing, mostly Sussex real ales and some 20 wines are available by the glass. The seasonal menus show how dependent the kitchen is on the local area: for example, roasted scallops with a ginger, chilli, garlic and soy butter; chargrilled chump of lamb, mustard mash with rosemary and garlic oil; linguine vongole with whole fresh clams; and Kentucky-fried rabbit with carrot purée and pesto potatoes.
