EPPING GREEN, Little Berkhamsted, SG13 8NB
Weatherboarded under a tiled roof, this family-run pub has held a liquor licence for over 200 years. Hanging baskets and window boxes adorn the frontage, while the interior feels traditional to the core, with black beams, a log-burner and ornamental brasses; outside is decked and grassed. Fresh fish is a speciality - maybe poached fish pie; sea bass fillets; or conventional fish and chips. Among the meats are chicken, ham hock and leek pie; lamb shoulder in minted gravy; bacon and brie beefburger; steaks and specials. Vegetarians and coeliacs have a good choice too. On the beer pumps are Greene King and a changing guest ale.
