Centuries ago, a lighthouse guiding seafarers to the safety of Edinburgh's port is believed to have shared the site of this redoubtable old pub at the heart of Leith's bustling waterfront. A memorable wood-boarded interior welcomes guests keen to sample the excellent Scottish seafood for which the place is widely recognised. Monkfish cheeks with curried parsnip and pickled carrots a fascinating entrée, coupled with mains like pork belly and scallops with butternut squash purée or perhaps a warming venison casserole. Scottish-brewed real ales are the heart of the liquid fare here. Outside seating looks out on the promenade beside the Water of Leith.
