The Bow Bar

80 The West Bow, EDINBURGH, EH1 2HH

This free house in the heart of Edinburgh's old town reflects the history and traditions of the area. Tables are from decommissioned railway carriages, and a gantry reclaimed from an old church is used to house around 200 malt whiskies. Eight real ales from micro-breweries across the UK, along with some keg beers, are dispensed from antique Aitken founts driven by air pressure. Such is the focus on liquid refreshment that bar snacks are the only solids served. Conversation is highly prized too - there are no gaming machines or music to detract from the agreeable ambience.
