The Queen's Arms Country Inn

The oldest part of this Lambourn Valley inn was a farmer's cottage in the 18th century; its name derives from being licensed around 1856, the year of Queen Victoria's Silver Jubilee. Freddie Tulloch took over here in August 2015 and has maintained the warm welcome and stylishly traditional setting. In an area with 2,000 racehorses and more than 50 racing yards, this charming pub acts as a quasi-headquarters for British racing with owners, trainers and jockeys among its clientele. With a glass of Doom Bar or Aspall cider in hand, choose from the menu: ham hock and home-made chutney sandwich; a burger from the bar menu or pub favourites - fish pie or beer battered cod and chips. After a gallop, two courses could be called for: try chicken parfait with toasted brioche, followed by roasted salmon fillet with new potatoes, mango salsa and salad.
