Blue Anchor Inn

The grandfather of the present owners, Jeremy and Andrew Coleman, acquired this pretty stone-built and heavily thatched inn in 1941, when he bought it from a large local estate. The inn has been trading almost continuously since 1380. The interior is warmly traditional, with a warren of small rooms and low beamed ceilings; open fires include a large inglenook. The selection of well-kept real ales includes national treasures from Brains and Theakston. Dishes from the enticing and reasonably-priced menu are served in both the bar and the upstairs restaurant. Starters may include Pantysgawn goats' cheese arancini with beetroot salad; or confit duck leg samosa with barbecue sauce. Robust main courses feature the likes of roasted haunch of venison with celeriac mash and baby carrots; and pan-fried hake supreme with olive, caper and anchovy linguini. Steaks grilled to your liking are served with home-cut chips, mushroom, home-dried tomato and mixed salad.
