The Street, EARL SOHAM, Woodbridge, IP13 7RL

Sandwiched amidst a range of cottages in a peaceful village above the Vale of Deben, this uncompromisingly unchanging country pub ticks all the right boxes for lovers of traditional locals. The new licensee remains fiercely supportive of the microbrewery that started life in the pub's old chicken shed and now brews from larger premises opposite. Bitters, specials and a stout all keep appreciative villagers and visitors very happy in an unfussy, wood-burner-warmed interior where quiet conversation and village banter are bedfellows. Filling pub meals may include slow-roast lamb; corned beef hash or a good choice of vegetarian specials like creamy leek flan.
