The Bakers Arms

High Street, DROXFORD, SO32 3PA

This is an unpretentious, white-painted pub with abundant country charm - the staff are friendly and the locals clearly love the place. The Bowman Brewery a mile away supplies the bar with Swift One and Wallops Wood, so why look any further afield, asks owner Adam Cordery. Also in the bar you'll find home-made Cornish pasties, pickled eggs and onions, and hot filled baguettes, while over the big log fire a blackboard lists the day's AA-Rosette main dishes. Among these will be the day's pie, burgers, sausages or steaks; and maybe roasted pheasant breast with pheasant bon bon; creamy goats' cheese, chestnut and spinach linguine; and baked Devon crab with skinny fries and lemon mayo. Adam shoots game or grows much of the produce himself.
