Close to Wardour Castle in the pretty little village of Donhead St Andrew, this lovely old pub is an ideal place to put your feet up after one of the long local walks. Traditional in style, it has warm stone walls, a thatched roof, original beams and an inglenook fireplace. An extension provides a restaurant plus a restaurant/meeting room, with double doors opening on to the lower patio area. The restaurant has a good reputation for freshly cooked meals and specialises in Cornish seafood - there is a separate seafood menu available during the week. These quality ingredients are treated with a mix of traditional and cosmopolitan flavours to create dishes such as pan-fried Cornish plaice fillet, crab-crushed potatoes, purple kale, and shellfish butter; and Donhead Estate venison suet pudding, roasted root vegetables and braised red cabbage. To finish, maybe try lavender pannacotta with honeycomb or order the award-winning cheeseboard.
