Description
Built from locally quarried sandstone, this 15th-century inn stands by the south gate of the National Trust's Hardwick Hall, and has been run by three generations of the same family. The historic atmosphere has been retained, particularly when the coal fires are lit in winter. On the menu are local estate lamb dishes, (roast, grilled steak, and shepherd's pie); local game and ale casserole, and home-made vegetarian dishes including balti with rice and naan bread.
