Caesars Arms
Cardiff Road,
CREIGIAU,
CF15 9NN
An upmarket country dining pub and farm shop tucked away down winding lanes just ten miles from Cardiff. The whitewashed building is older than it looks, but inside you'll find an appealing bar and dining area, and fine views over extensive gardens and surrounding countryside from the heated patio and terrace. There's so much more here than the excellent ales from Llanelli's Felinfoel Brewery and the award-winning wine list, which extends to more than 100 bottles and is probably one of the best selections in Wales. The pub has its own beehives and makes its own honey; vegetables, herbs and salads from its own gardens are grown organically and used in the kitchen, and there's an in-house smokery, giving a truly local flavour. The excellent farm shop is well stocked with free-range eggs, rare breed pork products, honey from their hives, Welsh cheeses, home-baked bread and chef's ready prepared meals to take away. The inn prides itself on the vast selection of fresh fish, seafood, meat and game displayed on shaven ice in display cabinets. Fresh seafood is an undoubted strength, with deliveries taken twice daily. Start with Pembrokeshire dressed crab, tiger prawns cooked in garlic, or scallops with leek and bacon, then follow with hake, salmon, John Dory, Dover sole or lobster in season. For a real showstopper, order sea bass baked in rock salt - it will be theatrically cracked open and filleted at your table. Carnivores can choose from Carmarthenshire Welsh beef, plus mountain lamb, venison from the Brecon Beacons, and free-range chickens from the Wye Valley. Bajan fishcakes, scallops with leek julienne, or cherry-smoked duck breast with organic beetroot give an indication of the flavours that await in this much favoured hostelry. There is private parking for over 100 cars.

We have visited this establishment on numerous occasions, however our recent visit we arrived to find no booking when we had reserved, paid in full and pre ordered for 16 persons! Thankfully we had our debit card receipt or we would all have had to pay again! Then they sat us a table for 12! At the end of the night they gave us a bill which wasn't ours! Then the head waiter said we were barred! On a lighter note we did have 2 complimentary bottles of wine!
