Caesars Arms
Description
The pace of life in the capital city of Cardiff seems a world away once you've driven through the ten miles of winding country lanes to arrive at this award-winning pub and restaurant. A whitewashed building that is probably older than it looks, it has a covered terrace and an appealing interior. With considerable justification it prides itself on its huge selection of locally sourced fresh fish, seafood, meat and game. Much of the fish and seafood is placed on shaven ice in huge counter displays, whence it is taken to be transformed into starters such as Bajan fishcakes; scallops with leek julienne; fresh Pembrokeshire dressed crab; tiger prawns in garlic; scallops with leek and bacon; and the sea-related crispy laver balls. An alternative is cherry-smoked duck breast, cured in the pub's own smokery, with organic beetroot. Main courses include hake, halibut, Dover sole, lobster and Pembrokeshire John Dory or sea bass, which is baked in rock salt and filleted at your table. Fillets, sirloins and rib-eye steaks come from dry-aged Pedigree Welsh Blacks; lamb and venison are from the Brecon beacons; and free-range chickens come from the Vale of Glamorgan. With your meal, enjoy a pint of Double Dragon or Felinfoel. Organically grown herbs, salads and vegetables are from the pub's garden, and honey from its own beehives is sold in a newly opened farm shop, alongside free-range eggs, Welsh cheeses, home-baked bread and Chef's ready meals.

Caesar's is in a great location 5 miles outside Cardiff. You have to book any night of the week, the staff are young but very helpful and friendly. The food is excellent cooked fresh for you, the Sea Bass in rock salt is wonderful. I've never been disappointed by this place. Beer is Felinfoel and the wine menu is very good
