Church Road, Llanblethian, COWBRIDGE, CF71 7JF
Much loved by visitors, this 17th-century former coaching inn is set in a picturesque corner of the Vale of Glamorgan's countryside on the fringe of the ancient town of Cowbridge, just a few miles from the splendid Heritage Coast. A family-run pub, Cross Inn has a cosy restaurant and comfortable, character bar with welcoming log fires and a convivial atmosphere. The chefs take great pride in developing daily menus of essentially British food with European influences. Fresh produce is sourced from local farmers and other reliable suppliers, with fish, prime Welsh steaks, poultry and other ingredients delivered every day to supply the bar meals, children's meals and the frequently changing restaurant menu. Expect choices to include pub favourites such as home-made curried chicken, crispy beer battered fillet of cod, wholetail scampi, pies and steaks, local pork and leek sausages and mash. Other choices could be ham hock terrine with red onion marmalade; and home-made lasagne al forno with hand-cut chips. The regularly changing specials board features a variety of fish, meat and game dishes, and the traditional Sunday lunch are always popular. There is a good wine list of regularly selected, quality wines. On arriving at Cross Inn particularly noticeable are the lovely hanging flower baskets which have won the pub several awards. Dogs are very welcome, and the pub, with a good sized car park, is an ideal starting and finishing point for walkers who enjoy exploring the many delightful country walks the area has to offer.
