The Ostrich

High Street, COLNBROOK, SL3 0JZ

One of England's oldest pubs can be found, perhaps surprisingly, close to Heathrow and minutes from the M25. Dating from 1106, the vast and rambling Ostrich oozes history. Some of its legends are particularly gruesome, as would befit the heavily timbered fašade, cobbled courtyard, wonky oak beams, massive fireplaces and crooked stairs. Yet the interior has acquired a contemporary style, so expect glass doors, a steel bar, chunky furnishings and vibrant colours. The menu of pub food embraces roasted pork belly with blue cheese potato gratin; pesto-crusted cod supreme; grilled salmon fishcake salad; and steak and Spitfire ale pie.
