The Shears Inn

The Cadley Road, COLLINGBOURNE DUCIS, Nr Marlborough, SN8 3ED

Dating from the 18th century, this traditional country inn (now in new hands) was once a shearing shed for market-bound sheep. The original part of the building is thatched, while inside you'll find wooden and slate floors, low-beamed ceilings and a large inglenook dominating the restaurant. Typical choices from the tasty modern British menu may include starters like haggis and black pudding with apple chutney; or smoked duck, Waldorf salad and beetroot sorbet; mains like sausage and mash with broccoli, smoked haddock kedgeree with soft egg; or garlic-infused mushrooms with linguine and truffle oil. Look out for lime and ginger cheesecake, or Eton Mess for afters. The enclosed sunny garden is an ideal place for a quiet drink and for the annual cider festival held in late summer.
