The Anchor Inn
COCKWOOD,
Starcross,
EX6 8RA
Reputedly over 450 years old, this former inn overlooks a small landlocked harbour on the River Exe; expect tales of smugglers and even a friendly ghost with his dog. In summer customers spill out onto the verandah and harbour wall, while real fires, nautical bric-a-brac and low beams make the interior cosy in winter. For fish lovers, the comprehensive menu will challenge the indecisive - there are 28 different ways to eat mussels, fresh oyster and scallop dishes aplenty, and fish platters. Meat eaters and vegetarians are not forgotten, and food allergies and dietary requirements are catered for. Beer festival twice a year.

Very disappointing. The salad garnish looked as though it had been hanging round for days and the thermidor sauce was an ordinary cheese one with very little flavour, some of the lobster meat had a strange texture, so I left it as I couldn't see what i was eating. My husband had haddock and this was equally as disappointing, very bland. If there is no effort made with a simple salad, what hope is there for a main meal !
