Smack in the heart of prime walking country, with Kinder Scout, Mam Tor and Stanage Edge all within easy reach, this family-run establishment is part traditional coaching inn, part medieval manor house - Whitehough Hall complete with minstrels' gallery. With a drinks list as long as your arm, you are bound to find your refreshment of choice. The impressive range of local cask ales and ciders is backed by all manner of bottled beers and spirits, and this makes no mention of around 80 wines and extensive non-alcoholic infusions. Two annual beer and cider festivals (third weekend in September, fourth weekend in February) confirm the Old Hall's commitment to serving the best of Derbyshire's micro-breweries. But don't miss the opportunity to eat here too. The kitchen prides itself on making all its own chutneys, pickles and sauces, along with plates of good food made from fresh local produce: sandwiches, home-made Scotch eggs, chicken curry of the day, and steak and kidney pudding are some examples.
