Old Harkers Arms

1 Russell Street, CHESTER, CH1 5AL

A buzzy meeting place with the feel of a gentlemen's club, this former Victorian chandler's warehouse on the Shropshire Union Canal is one of Chester's more unusual pubs. The bar offers over 100 malt whiskies (there's a helpful booklet to aid decision making), 15 wines by the glass, and hand pumps dispensing regular and guest ales mostly from local micro-breweries. The daily-changing menu runs from light dishes such as Welsh rarebit on granary toast or crab linguine through to main courses such as confit duck leg, bubble and squeak cake, caramelised plums and spiced redcurrant sauce. The pub holds events such as 'Pie & Ale Week'.
