On the outskirts of Cheltenham, The Royal Oak is the closest pub to the town's famous racecourse. Built in the 16th-century, the pub was once owned by England cricket legend Tom Graveney and continues its sporting links to this day. Hosts Simon and Kate have been here for over a decade, and pride themselves on their hospitality. Enjoy well-kept local cask ales, real ciders and delicious food in the snug, the comfortable dining room or the heated patio overlooking a pretty beer garden. The menu includes braised rolled beef in juniper and red wine sauce; pheasant breast with chestnut, bacon and Savoy cabbage; or a choice of steaks and market fish. There is a beer festival at Whitsun and a cider one on August Bank Holiday.
