CHALTON, Waterlooville, PO8 0BG
Said to be the oldest pub in Hampshire, dating back to 1147, when it was built to house craftsmen constructing St Michael's church opposite. It retains an olde worlde English charm, with a thatched roof, whitewashed exterior, brass knick-knacks, beams and roaring fires. A large purpose-built dining room is kept busy serving plates of pub grub. The expansive garden gives lovely views of the South Downs, and there's a beer festival on the last weekend in July.
