The New Inn

14 Long Street, CERNE ABBAS, DT2 7JF

The village of Cerne Abbas has a reasonable claim to be one of the prettiest in England, with its delightful stone buildings and thatched cottages. In the past, it was famous for brewing - at one time there were 16 pubs here. One that remains is The New Inn, a beautifully restored 16th-century coaching inn, now with new landlords. There's a mix of contemporary British and pub classic dishes on offer - pressed ham, globe artichoke and truffle terrine with piccalilli; slow-roast pork belly and crackling, braised red cabbage, apple sauce and champ; or mushroom 'Scotch egg' with curly kale, Jerusalem artichoke and mustard dressing. Wednesday nights are steak nights.
