This handsome Grade II listed coaching inn dates from the 17th century and was refurbished a few years ago by owner and designer Owain George. A top gastro-pub, it has become one of Bristol's premier dining destinations, as well as a popular pub to enjoy local ales and ciders. In the enclosed courtyard you can order jugs of Pimm's in summer or sip mulled cider under heaters in the winter. The modern British cooking, created by head chef Clarke Oldfield, uses local produce in dishes such as rabbit croquette with braised baby turnips and clotted cream mash; and West Country beef and Guinness pie with braised red cabbage.
